Profotech JSC and Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) demonstrated that optic technologies of current sensing can be used to increase measurement accuracy and security of protection systems during transients.
The results of this joint work are reflected in a scientific paper called “Fiber Optic Current Transformers for Transformer Differential Protection during Inrush Current: a Field Study” and also were presented in a prestigious international conference PowerTech2021 in Madrid supported by IEEE Power & Energy Society, that was carried out online from June 28 to July 2.
The work is based on usage of fiber optic current transformers that have transfer characteristic close to an ideal current transformer. Based on that, a new blocking algorithm during power transformers inrush current was developed.
The participants have highlighted the high importance of this research as well as the relevance of implementation of optical measurement technologies in power systems.
Profotech JSC and Skoltech plan to continue their joint work in this research to achieve new scientific and technological results.
