PROFOTECH installs owned production equipment at Nizhny Novgorod HPP

19 March 2014

In September 2014 “Profotech” will install electronic fiber-optical current transformers at Nizhny Novgorod HPP within the frames of investment program of “RusHydro” OJSC concerning R&D mix for 2012-2017.

The project has been realized by “Profotech” CJSC jointly with “EnergyindustryAutomatization” LLC and “EKRA” RPE LLC.

Nizhny Novgorod HPP, situated in Gorodetskij district, put online on November 2, 1955, represents a part of Volzhski cascade of hydroelectric power plants.

Within the frames of pilot implementation at Nizhny Novgorod HPP there will be installed 3-phase set as a part of electronic fiber-optical current transformers (EFOCT) and electronic voltage transformers with capacitive divider (EVTCD) at connection of 110 kV of open distributive system. EFOCTs represent current transducers with three optical circuits of reference execution for 110 kV for the purpose of measuring, accounting and RPA, as well as RPA back-up.

EVTCDs represent high-voltage bleeders for 110 kV. There also will be installed 2 set of flexible electronic fiber-optical current transformers (FEFOCT) at generated voltage of 13.8 kV, 3-phase execution.

The purpose of equipment installation is increasing the reliability and safety of current and voltage transformers operation at “RusHydro” OJSC projects.

EFOCT and EVTCD will function along with operational current and voltage transformers in a test mode. Operating equipment shall not be demounted. EFOCTs shall be installed from the side of high voltage of the unit transformer, as well as from the side of zero and main terminal of hydro-generator in series with customary current transformers. The following devices shall be connected to optical transformers: protective terminals with digital input, energy accounting digital counter, bay controller with the embedded emergency events recorder and SCADA-system of collection and information display. All the connections will be performed by means of the digital bus IEC 61850-9-2LE.

At a result of implementation of the equipment produced by “Profotech” the following effects shall be expected:

  • switch to digital technique of collection and processing of both instrumentation data and data for RPA operation;

  • evaluation of running expenses for installation and operation of optical instrument current and voltage transformers;

  • reduction of expenses for installation of secondary circuit cable laying and ducts for their laying;

  • increase of precision of measurements and energy accounting;

  • improvement of electromagnetic compatibility of up-to-date RPA and APCS equipment, and its secondary circuits thanks to switch to optical communications;

  • evaluation of possible reduction of expenses for replacement of customary current and voltage transformers;

  • confirming the increase of operational parameters by means of implementation of microprocessing intellectual electronic devices which do not have input paths of analogue signals.
